HNP Treatment

Treatment on herniated disc will be base on the symptoms being experienced by the patient, age of the patient, activity level of the patient, level of the injury and the presence of the worsening symptoms. Commonly light medical treatment will be given to a patient, if the symptoms persist and its getting much worst a more aggressive medical treatment will be given to the patient.

      ·         Anti Inflammatory Medications
-          Anti inflammatory medicine help reduce inflammation which relieves some pressure on the compressed nerves that causes pain.
      ·         Steroid Medications
-     Steroid medication is given to patient with severe disc herniation, steroid given to the patient on an oral or injections, steroid is a powerful anti-inflammatory medicine it reduce inflammation around the compressed nerves that causes pain, and it acts much faster than the traditional anti-inflammatory medications.
      ·         Narcotic Pain Medication
-      Narcotic pain medication are given to patients with severe disc herniation, it acts as a short-term pain reliever, this medication is not advisable for a long term because it makes you drowsy and can be addictive.
      ·         Muscle Relaxant Medication
-          Muscle relaxant medication decreases the muscle tone, are good to treat muscle spasm.
      ·         Non-surgical Spinal Decompression
-          A procedure to lessen the pressure on the spinal disc, using a mechanical traction device it reduces the body’s natural propensity to resist external pressure or reduces muscle spasm.
          ·         Surgical Treatment
-       Surgical treatment is given to a patient with a highly severe disc herniation that can’t be cured with non-surgical treatment and also if the symptoms are severe like functional abnormality of some area of the body due to a decreasing function of the nerves in the spinal cord which bring to a loss of balance, abnormal reflexes, walking problems, inability to speak and decreased sensation.
