HNP Symptoms


Study show around 50% of the patient diagnose with herniated disc don’t feel any symptoms such as pain, numbness and tingling. It is considerable that if the extruded jelly-like substance in the middle of the spinal disc doesn't press or put pressure on soft tissues or nerves, it may not cause any symptoms.

The most common symptoms for patients with herniated disc are mild to severe pain can be felt directly on the affected area.

Lumbar (lower back) disk herniation symptoms
      ·         Lower back pain
      ·         Pain can be felt directly on the injured area
      ·         Pain in the thighs
      ·         Pain in the knees or feet

Thoracic (chest) disc herniation symptoms
      ·         Middle back pain
      ·         Moving pain around the rib cage
      ·         Shoulder pain
      ·         Moving pain into the arms
      ·         Strong heart palpitations

Cervical (neck) disc herniation symptoms
      ·         Neck pain (pain when moving your neck)
      ·         Pain near or over the shoulder blade
      ·         Moving pain into the arms (rarely down to the fingers)
      ·         Weakness on arm and handgrip

Other symptoms may include sensory changes such as numbness, tingling, muscular weakness, paralysis. These symptoms can be felt on some parts of the body because the affected nerve travels to other parts of the body. Commonly the symptoms can be felt only on one side of the body.
